Hydrogen Pipework Fabrication Services

As hydrogen adoption grows, the need for safe, standards-compliant pipework is critical. ShawPF delivers expert hydrogen pipe fabrication for projects across the UK, built in-house, tested for reliability, and ready for real world use.

Fabrication Specialists for Hydrogen-Ready Infrastructure

As the demand for hydrogen grows across energy, transport, and industrial sectors, the need for safe, compliant, and expertly fabricated pipework has never been greater. At ShawPF, we specialise in hydrogen pipework fabrication, designing and welding pipe systems that meet the stringent requirements of hydrogen service, including ASME B31.12 standards.

Whether you’re working on a pilot project, hydrogen refuelling station, or integrating H₂ into your existing operations, we deliver pipework solutions that prioritise safety, performance, and compliance

This example highlights our ability to fabricate pipe systems that meet strict pressure and regulatory standards—delivered with clean welds, fully traceable materials, and a strong focus on hydrogen compatibility.

  • ASME B31.12-Aligned Workflows
Every project follows the recognised standard for hydrogen piping, ensuring integrity and code compliance.
  • Materials Built for Hydrogen Service
We work with 316L stainless steel, duplex alloys, and other low-permeability materials proven to perform under hydrogen pressure and purity requirements.
  • Welding Expertise You Can Trust
Our coded welders understand the nuances of hydrogen systems – controlling porosity, performing clean welds, and using proven shielding techniques.
  • In-House Fabrication
Pipe spools, manifolds, and custom assemblies are fabricated at our UK workshop and tested before delivery.
  • Pressure Testing
We offer hydro, helium, and nitrogen pressure testing as part of our QA procedures where specified.
  • Custom or Modular Builds
We can fabricate to your designs or collaborate during the design phase to create modular, repeatable pipework assemblies for deployment at scale.

Send us your process details and we’ll guide you through the options.

Hydrogen Pipework Fabrication FAQ’s

What standards do you follow for hydrogen pipework fabrication?

We fabricate to ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.12 standards, depending on project requirements. All materials and processes are aligned with PED 2014/68/EU regulations and certified for hydrogen service where required.

What materials are suitable for hydrogen pipework?

We primarily use ASTM A312 TP316L stainless steel, which offers excellent resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. Other alloys can be specified based on pressure, temperature, and permeability requirements.

Do you offer pressure testing for hydrogen pipework?

Yes. We provide pressure testing services up to 148.95 barg, including hydrostatic, nitrogen, and helium leak testing. All tests are documented and traceable as part of our QA procedures.

Can you help with design and layout of hydrogen pipework systems?

Absolutely. While we’re a fabrication specialist, we often collaborate with design engineers to optimise layout, flange selection, and support structures to meet hydrogen safety and performance needs.

What connection types are available?

Yes. Both body length and width can be customised to suit your application. We build each unit to order based on your requirements.

Is your pipework suitable for hydrogen refuelling stations or blending zones?

Yes. We’ve fabricated pipework for a range of hydrogen applications including refuelling stations, pilot plants, blending systems, and hydrogen-ready industrial processes.

Do you supply full certification with each project?

Yes. Every hydrogen pipework project comes with full material traceability, welding logs, pressure test certificates, and compliance documentation to meet regulatory and client requirements.
